Drag-and-Drop Upload

OVERVIEW:

It's easy to load your existing data into the archive. This importing system allows you to simply drag-and-drop legacy email and/or file data into the archive utilizing a Java applet.

File formats:
        * The system ingests, stores, and indexes the following email file types: EML, PST, NSF, RGE, MBOX, and Maildir.
        * The system also handles the following compressed files types: ZIP, 7zip, GZIP, GZ, TAR, and RAR.
                - For PST imports, the PST files should be name with the primary SMTP address of the owner.
                - For instance: jack@acme.com.pst.
        * If your account has file archiving enabled, you can upload any of the supported file format to the archive.

How many files can I upload?

There is no limit to the number of files you can upload but you may incur additional charges based on the size of the data processed into the archive. We strongly recommend that you compress and catalog your files by name prior to uploading them. Once you mark the import job as complete (clicking on "Upload Complete"), uploading will be disabled for that job.

CREATING A DRAG-AND-DROP IMPORT:

Step 1 (only required the first time):

    1. Open an IMPORT support ticket with your archiving provider.
    2. Include DnD (Drag and Drop) in the subject line or description.
    3. Your archiving provider will then enable the underlying services to present the "Upload To Your Archive" button within the IMPORT tab.
    4. Go to ACCOUNT - Options and select the "Enable Physical Media and S3 Imports" checkbox.

Step 2:

    1. Go to the "IMPORT" tab in the administration section of the archive.
    2. Click the "Upload To Your Archive" button at the top right of the page.

    3. Fill out the blank fields with the required information
            * Provide your name (first and last).
            * Provide your telephone number.
            * Provide your email address
            * Provide a unique name for the import task.
            * Give a description/additional details for the import task.
    4. When you are done populating the fields, click on "Select Files..." at the bottom of the page.

Step 3:

*** NOTE: Make sure that the Java plug-in is installed or not disabled; otherwise the applet does not load and the user will not receive any message that this is the problem.

    1. Accept Java applet warnings as trusted content.
    2. Use file Finder (Mac OS) or Windows Explorer to locate files. You can directly drop files into the Java applet from a Windows machine, without having to select them first.
    3. The moment you choose a file, it will immediately begin to upload to a secure cloud storage location for the customer. For security purposes, the customer has no visibility into the destination location.
    4. Choose the legacy email data or files to be uploaded.

Step 4:

    1. When the upload is complete (100%), click Upload Completed and click OK on the confirmation popup window to close your import job.
    2. A confirmation message will be displayed on top of the import page acknowledging the success of the upload. ***Note, this does not mean that your files and/or emails are available in the archive.
    3. A member of your archive provider's support team will reach out to you to verify the details of the import and start indexing the data.

Drag-and-Drop Import Encryption & Security

The moment a file is chosen or dropped into the Java applet, it will immediately begin to upload to a secure cloud storage location, specific to the customer's account using HTTPS/SSL. The customer will have no visibility into the destination location for security purposes.

Legacy DnD uploads to S3 leverages a single AWS user that has PUT-only access to an S3 bucket reserved for legacy uploads. The upload is managed by a Java applet, configured by the archive website for a specific upload jobs, that communicates to S3 using S3 REST Authentication to ensure data security and fidelity.

From an archive security perspective, the archive's configuration always includes both the AWS Key and AWS Secret Key for the legacy DnD upload applet to ensure that no external party can access the data. The archive never exposes the AWS Secret Key or makes it accessible to the Java applet.
